Maria Allocco - Writer / Silk-Screen Artist

Maria Allocco is an EcoArts instructor providing youth workshops in creative writing and silk-screening. With over 10 years experience as a writer and youth educator, Maria shares her inspiration of nature to guide youth in new areas of self-expression and expansion. Silk-screening is a way to express one’s own words and vision onto a piece of wearable art. During a workshop, participants will choose earth-themed designs or create their own, silk-screen them onto fabric, and learn how to create and print a personal item of clothing. Participants are encouraged to bring blank t-shirts and bags to reconstruct into take-home art.

Maria was the recipient of the Academy of American Poets Prize in 2003, and her work can be seen in The Lantern Review, The Monday Night Literary Review, and Fusion Literary Magazine.

Josie Adele - Jewelry Designer

Josie Adele is an EcoArts instructor providing workshops for youth and adults to Up-cycle Your Jewelry. In the workshop, you will learn basic jewelry techniques, tool handling, stringing, wire-wrapping, forging, and composition. Participants are encouraged to bring old jewelry, found objects, or thrift-store finds to up-cycle into a new ring, necklace or pendant.  We start with the basics, work with wire to form a simple ring, and then evolve into personal creations.

Josie has been an entrepreneur jewelry designer since 2004 and uses recycled elements and local production in her work.  She has a degree from Colorado State University and completed the Sustainable Design Program at the University of California Berkeley Extension. She develops eco-efficient products from recycled metals and other materials and views it as a beautiful and rewarding challenge to up-cycle waste into something of value, which will be appreciated for years to come.
